Youth Basketball

BasketballCYM Basketball consists of youth focused on learning and playing the game of basketball. The program runs from grades third through high school with main focus on fourth through eighth graders. Players, parents and coaches travel to various diocesan parishes and play other CYM teams in their appropriate grade bracket. We also play home games in our Parish Center Gym. The season runs from Thanksgiving to the middle of March.

Time commitment involves one hour weekly practice, as well as two hours for game time every Saturday. Parents are expected to volunteer their time to help with the responsibilities of maintaining the program such as collecting admission, keeping scoreboard and running the clock. Assistance is also needed with selling drinks and snacks.

Children require no training, but should participate in weekly practice. Adults interested in coaching must attend Virtus Training and the Rutgers Coaches training. In addition, all coaches need to be fingerprinted. For more information, email

Key Registration Notes for This Year:

  • Online and Live Registration:  We are now using TeamSnap to conduct online registration for this season –  This is our very first time trying this and we have tested it and our praying that it will work properly – please also pray with us and be patient if you do have any issues.  Our hope is that this will not only allow our Board and Coaches to more easily track registrations and collect payments, but will also make it easier to update all of our St. Bernard’s families as the season progresses on schedules for practice, games, tournaments, special events and things like Spirtwear.  Please note that paying by credit card or ACH comes with a fee to TeamSnap that is 3% of the transaction +$.99 for credit card and 2% + $.99 for ACH – you are still welcome to pay directly by check if you do not wish to pay that fee, but must still register online and select “Pay Offline” at the end.  We are requiring you to submit a notarized medical release form, which is also contained in the online registration for easy of use and download.  We will also be having live registration as noted above on Sunday, September 24th and October 1st after the 10:30 and noon masses as noted above in Room C downstairs at the church.  We plan to have computers and iPads to help you do this online registration live and also notarize and collect Medical Release Forms, Non-Parishioner forms, try on sample uniforms for sizing and collect offline payments.
  • Change to Grade Levels for Teams: The Diocese has changed the format of the league this coming season and will be splitting teams by grade level, rather than pairing grades.  The teams and divisions will now be 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and High School.  We are accepting 3rd grade registrations, but please note that we will place 4th graders first and those 3rd grade players may be mixed with 4th graders and will be competing in a 4th grade division.
  • New Uniforms: This season we will be eliminating the uniform deposit of $50 and will be requiring that all players purchase a St. Bernard’s uniform.  We do have sample uniforms of varying sizes that can tried on at our Live Registration sessions on September 24th and October 1st.  If you cannot make that, you may have to guess the correct size.  We will be purchasing a few extra uniforms for size exchanges and late registrants, but we cannot exchanges if you pick the wrong size.  The cost coincidentally is expected to be $50 per player, but the uniforms can be retained from year to year and will only need to be replaced when your child needs to move up a size or two, switches numbers or there is a design change (which we will minimize). Volunteering at home game days will also still be a requirement for continued participation.   We will arrange for distribution of those uniforms by coaches at a regularly scheduled practice in mid-November before the season begins.
  • Non-Parishioners: Because this is a Diocese and Parish sponsored ministry, we must accept participants from St. Bernard first. There is a form on the registration website and linked below that you must submit if you are not a registered and active St. Bernard Parishioner.  We continue to welcome families outside of St. Bernard’s of all faiths as room is available on our teams.
  • Coaches: We expect to have many of our great coaches returning this season, but if you are interested we can always use more help.  Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in coaching or helping out.
  • Refunds and Cancellation: If you register and change your mind, we will refund money up until the rosters are submitted to the Diocese on November 1st. Uniforms will be ordered on October 15th, so we will not be able to refund uniform fees after that date.

If you have questions or trouble registering please e-mail us at We look forward to seeing you all very soon. Thank you and God bless!”
