Youth Basketball

BasketballCYM Basketball consists of youth focused on learning and playing the game of basketball. The program runs from grades third through high school with main focus on fourth through eighth graders. Players, parents and coaches travel to various diocesan parishes and play other CYM teams in their appropriate grade bracket. We also play home games in our Parish Center Gym. The season runs from Thanksgiving to the middle of March.

Time commitment involves one hour weekly practice, as well as two hours for game time every Saturday. Parents are expected to volunteer their time to help with the responsibilities of maintaining the program such as collecting admission, keeping scoreboard and running the clock. Assistance is also needed with selling drinks and snacks.

Children require no training, but should participate in weekly practice. Adults interested in coaching must attend Virtus Training and the Rutgers Coaches training. In addition, all coaches need to be fingerprinted. For more information, email stbernardnjcym@gmail.com.

REGISTRATION 2018/2019 Season

St. Bernard Basketball Registration 2018-2019 Season NOW OPEN

Registration for St. Bernard Basketball is now open with a deadline of Sunday, October 7th 2018 at midnight EST. You can go online now to https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/139969 to register online, order a new uniform and pay.

Here are key dates, some instructions and other details:

Dates:

  • Online Registration Start Date: Sunday, September 16th, 2018
  • Registration End Date: Sunday, October 7th, 2018
  • Live Q&A: We will not be conducting live registration this year as you can now, for the first time, complete registration entirely online.  If you are having trouble with online registration, have questions, would like to drop a check or would like to have your son or daughter try on a uniform before placing a new order, we will be available on Sunday, September 30th, 10:30 am – 1:30 on in Room C in the lower level of the Church.  You can also e-mail our Board at stbernardnjcym@gmail.com with any questions.
  • Practice Start: Early November 2018
  • Regular Season Start: Saturday, December 1st, 2018
  • Playoffs and Post-season Tournaments: late-March and early-April 2019

Key Registration Notes:

  • Online Registration and Payment:  We are now using TeamSnap to conduct online registration for this season again – https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/139969.  Please note that paying by credit card or ACH comes with a fee to TeamSnap that is 3% of the transaction +$.99 for credit card and 2% + $.99 for ACH – you are still welcome to pay directly by check if you do not wish to pay that fee, but must still register online and select “Pay Offline” at the end. Checks can be dropped off or mailed to the Parish Office in a sealed envelope marked “St. Bernard Basketball” with a printed copy of the registration receipt from TeamSnap. The address for mailing is St. Bernard of Clairvaux, US 22, Bridgewater, NJ 08807, attn: St. Bernard Basketball.  Payment must be received by the registration deadline of October 7th.
  • Grade Levels and Team Assignments:  The teams and divisions will be 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and High School (JV and Varsity).  We are accepting 3rd grade registrations, but please note that we will place 4th graders first and those 3rd grade players may be mixed with 4th graders and will be competing in a 4th grade division.  Requests to play for a specific coach or team will be considered, but we will not accept pre-formed teams and every effort will be made to balance teams for fairness before honoring requests.
  • New Uniforms: Uniforms will be the same as last season so if your child has a uniform and it still fits, there is no need to order a uniform. New players or returning players who need a different size should order and pay for a new uniform as part of registering.  We do have sample uniforms of varying sizes that can be tried on at our Q&A session from 10am-1:30pm on Sunday, September 30th.  If you cannot make that date, you may have to visit Personalized Paraphernalia on Division Street in Somerville during their regular hours.
  • Volunteer Hours. Volunteering at home game days will also still be a requirement for continued participation.   We will arrange for distribution of those uniforms by coaches at a regularly scheduled practice in mid-November before the season begins.
  • Non-Parishioners: Because this is a Diocese and Parish sponsored ministry, we accept participants from St. Bernard’s parish first. There are questions in the registration that you must fill out if you are not a registered and active St. Bernard Parishioner.  We continue to welcome families outside of St. Bernard’s of all faiths as room is available on our teams.
  • Coaches: We expect to have many of our great coaches returning this season, but if you are interested we can always use more help.  Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in coaching or helping out.
  • Refunds and Cancellation: If you register and change your mind, we will refund money up until the rosters are submitted to the Diocese on November 1st. Uniforms will be ordered on October 15th, so we will not be able to refund uniform fees after that date.
