Men’s Ministry

Mens Ministry Logo
The St. Bernard Men’s Club is a great way to meet other men of the parish. Think of it as an opportunity to network within the parish. The group generally meets once a month for an hour and a half to enjoy a good breakfast and a social gathering with other men and to hear a speaker on an interesting topic.

All men interested in participating in the group must just be parishioners and have an interest in connecting with other men of the parish on the second Saturday of the month.

In addition to the monthly meetings, the club sponsors two annual awards. The Charlie Grill Award recognizes a man of the parish yearly and the Woman’s Appreciation Award recognizes a woman yearly for their contributions to St. Bernard and the community at large.

Upcoming Breakfast Meeting

December Breakfast Meeting

The Men’s Breakfast will be held next Saturday, December 9th at 7:30 AM in the Parish Center. Our good friends from the North Branch Reform Church will be joining us for our annual Christmas celebration. A hot breakfast will include spiral ham, pancakes, eggs and   bacon.

Monsignor Randy will be our speaker. Please join us for good food, conversation, celebration and, of course, Christmas caroling.

All are welcome! If you are not a regular attendee of our breakfasts and would like to attend, please RSVP to Greg Elia at 908-429-0790 so we can plan the menu accordingly. Breakfast will include our parish famous scrambled eggs and spiral ham. Thank you!

The St. Bernard’s Men’s Club will be hosting their monthly Saturday breakfasts on the following dates:

September 9th, October 14th, November 11th and December 9th.

Please mark your calendars! Come join us for a good breakfast and conversation at

7:30 am in the Parish Center Cafeteria.

Get to know your fellow parishioners and neighbors.

A $5 donation is requested for each attendee. NEW ATTENDEES: Please stop by the SCRIP Table in the Church Narthex and pick up a “Free Breakfast Card” offering you to bypass the requested donation.

Annual Presentation of the Charlie Grill Award

About Charile Grill and the Charlie Grill Award

Both Charlie and his wife Kitty had a love of God and neighbor. This love was expressed in their service to God, church, family, country and community. Charlie was a life-long, dedicated parishioner of St. Bernard dating back to the original church in Raritan, NJ. Over the years, Charlie played an active role in numerous service-related activities and programs, but will be remembered most for his passion of woodworking; he crafted items for both parish recognition recipients and the church itself. Charlie succumbed to leukemia in 1993. Following his passing, the Men’s Club initiated an annual award in his honor to be given to a male parishioner who demonstrates many of the same characteristics and acts of service that Charlie did for so many years. That tradition continues today in a very vibrant way.

The nominee and recipient of the award must demonstrate the following:

  • Performs service in a manner that reflects the love of Christ
  • Is a member of St. Bernard Church and a regular communicant
  • Performs acts of service while a member of St. Bernard Church
  • Performs acts of service that include but are not limited to: ministry to the homebound, nursing and assisted living facilities, the homeless, hospitals, the poor/needy, missionary work, Catholic Charities, Diocese)

Presented to Russell Nesbitt

Russell Nesbitt is recognized for many years of dedication to St. Bernard Parish. Through the years Russell has significantly and humbly participated in and led many parish service activities.

Russell’s contribution of time and talents has enriched parish activities such as serving as a member of the Stewardship Council for 10+ years. He has served on the Education Committee for the Adult Religious Education Program, played host for New Friends / New Beginnings and is an active member of the Guatemala Partnership which included a retreat to the sponsor community. He has generously supported both the Ministry Fair and Annual Golf Outing events. Outside of the St Bernard Community, Russ contributed his time to the Girl Scott Council and numerous fund raising events for his children’s grammar and high school.

We congratulate Russell for his many understated contributions and thank him for his inspiration and uncompromising commitment to the Lord.
